“We were so intrigued by Amy Abbott’s work we just had to share with you all. They are shocking in their own way, with her simple line sketches, almost childlike, they remind us of Egon Sciele’s wiry characters and of Otto Dix’s disturbing erotic fantasy drawings.” A Ballad 0f Magazine |
| Amy Abbott’s practice is a feminist study exploring the taboos of female gender roles and sexual identity in present society. Abbott uses feminists quotes by Germaine Greer and Virginia Woolf as a reference point for her drawings to engage both humour and an understanding of the emotions in her drawings. |
| Amy Abbott’s research acknowledges negative stereotypes of women being a weaker sex and shows women’s sexuality through ‘masculine’ activities such as masturbation. By doing so Abbott focuses on the women’s emotional relationship as wife or mother to present an unprejudiced insight into gender roles and sexuality. |
| A natural and spontaneous artist this passion for exploration means that Abbott uses a variety of mixed media techniques including drawing, painting, collage, etching and mono-print. |
